cut scene from the very first episode, the one where Michael asks Madeline to intervene with Paul in favor of Michael's judegment on her potential?

I know that canon didn't go this way - but it's always hung in my head as a really compelling 'what if' idea - the way it showed the two of them (Madeline and Michael) in a potential alliance vs. the unreasonable boss guy, Paul.

Nikita, in this scenario, would also have an interesting role to play as their - combined - protege.

I know part of what appeals to me in offing Paul in this game Cyanide started is the opportunity to see that path chosen afterall.

And again, yes, on the parellel tracks thing. Nikita is clearly (to me) coming up in Michael's (and possibly Paul's as well) track of mission/tactical leadership. Whether, like Michael, her profiling skills will continue to evolve, seems likely - given how canon played out - but at that juncture she was not at all ready for Madeline's responsbilities (nor was she ready for Paul's....but that, alas, *is* canon).
