I assumed, (even before I read your comment to Jaybee!), that you meant one of the main, recurring chacracters.

Like most, Jason did nothing for me but annoy - so I would choose him for that alone.

However, if the point is to change the canon story dynamic - I would choose Paul. Nikita's death would affect no one, really, but possibly Michael, and he would survive, I think. Again, Michael's death - especially if it came after he completed the Vacheck mission would leave a grieving, but surviving Nikita - and a relatively unaltered Section - perhaps even one that ran more smoothly without the M/N relationship disruptors.

Madeline's death would produce interesting results - but I don't want her to die. So there.

So, I choose Paul. Probably either by dying from the poison he willingly took to decieve Red Cell, or perhaps when demon-spawn boy flung him through the air and slamed him up against the wall. Maybe a rib went through Paul's heart, or something?

I don't think Madeline would have been promoted to Operations. I think either someone from outside would have been sent in, or, and I think the odds are good (not close to 100, but way better than 50/50) that at either point, Center would have promoted Michael.

This would have disrupted everything - and I would love to watch how Madeline's loyalty to Section functioned without Paul. Watching her navigate that transition would be fascinating; under Michael - or under some third, outside party.

Also, Nikita didn't really like Michael when he was in charge - so their relationship might very well have withered away - and yet she would have remained useful to both Madeline and Michael because Section needed some source of passionate table pounding - Paul + Nikita was clearly too much. Nikita in a subordinate position might have been very useful indeed. Freeing all of them to do what they did best...in new and interesting ways.

There. That's what I would choose.

Nell
