Don't have a chance to read the article yet but I'm with you 100% on your comments. New Orleans was actually inspiring in that when the stuff hit the fan 99.9% of the people there behaved themselves (other than grabbing pampers and perrier). In other words, I don't buy into the sci-fi medieval scenarios will necessariliy happen if the lights go out. I know that some of my students will not be getting presents this year b/c the parents have to pay the bills, but that's not unusual. My sense is the economy is doing very well for the well to do (who can afford or have the interest to by art), but not for the 30K auto works and the newly jobless. Lot of folks aren't feeling it.
