thanks for the detailed explanation, krz. you should be a teacher.

when i was kid, it was my dream to go "Up North" as it is called in milwaukee and elsewhere in wisconsin. when my 12th birthday came i was ready to go with my remington wingmaster 5-shot 12 gauge shotgun, orange mittens with a slit in the right-hand for the triggerfinger, pocket warmers, deerstink, lots of snacks and sorel boots with the felt liners. we would go to a place called Tipler.

i don't know where it is but it must be pretty far north because in all the years i went [probably 4 or 5] all i remember was being very very cold. i mean lifethreateningly cold. trying to sit still in the woods by myself looking for that elusive buck freezing my a$$ off. i remember crying.

being coloredblind was a distinct disadvantage and even in the car driving as a kid up north we'd stop and "look!there's one!" and i'd look and say "where? where?" and everyone would say "right there!! what are you blind!?!"

the beginning of my emotional decline. but i digress.

anyway, i went deer hunting every year as a kid. sometimes twice. even in Doe and buck areas! and i never had a chance to take a shot at a deer.

the closest i came was walking back to the car with my uncle at mid-day and we heard one in the brush and he, being the good uncle, said "ok, here's your chance! just wait for him to clear those trees..ok..now"

and i'm like "where?"

bang! one shot from uncle mike...nice 8 point buck.
