come november the luecks next door (neighbors to baron the one eyed killer) always had a deer or two hanging from a big branch of the tall sugar maple in their back yard... they hunted everything - even the rabbits in the neighborhood

we'd come over to stare at them - excited b/c that's as close as one usually will ever get to a wild animal and yet something creepy and sad about for me as a kid...

My dad didn't like guns and didn't like hunting (Dad, why can't we go hunting like the Luecks? Naw, I don't like guns and I got nothing against those sweet little deer.)

I went pheasant hunting with Bucko & Jocko with bows in the woods around town but I'm not sure if I ever even took a shot... I just liked walking through the fields and watching the quail pop out and the pheasant slide and weave through the grass.

I can't recall anyone at CK hunting - geo - do you remember anyone? Bill Kraus?

Tagging along with the Spanish in Africa opened my eyes to hunting in many different ways. One of the most memorable times was when the one of the hunters (the biggest and baddest of the bunch) broke down and hugged a (dead) young female buffalo and started bawlin' over her loss... a dozen men standing around in the late evening silent to his weeping, watchful that other buffalo wouldn't take a crack at us while we waited.

I like how the pygmees cover themselves in elephant dung and then sneak up on one at night, cut its tendons so it falls (on them? - must be tricky), then open it up and jump inside the elephant to start butchering the beast, up to their necks in blood.

Anyrate - I guess there's an article in the NYT today - the guy was a Hmong shaman?
