been following W's language regarding the ownership society and find it interesting. Can't say I agree with all - can't say I disagree either.

The one point I tend to take exception to in the debate is when it is claimed that we have no crisis -- I agree we are solvent for my retirement likely. I also agree that the changing picture of national finances MIGHT make SS solvent for my kids. However, to say there is no crisis so we don't have to do anything is simply a 'put out the fire' rather than 'prevent the fire' approach. I see too much of putting out fires in other aspects of life to be comfortable with anyone wanting to dissuade the conversation until such time as a "real" crisis looms.

I agree with the bottom line on tjm's piece -- no easy solution. A good start is to have a conversation...

Not feeling like a long contribution at the moment but heard an interesting 'ownership society' example on NPR yesterday. I'll try to find the link.
