 i heard one of the advocates for the ANWAR say something to the effect: "...it's really not as hard on the habitat and migratory routes of the caribou. in fact, i've heard that they like to get warm under the pipeline during the sub-zero temperature"

it really made me laugh. was this guy being serious? in fact he was.

i am not an opponent of the drilling since supposedly the known reserves would power a state the size of NM for 200 years, according to some such data i read somewhere. and until we get serious about conservation and intelligent usage of power on a grassroots level, we don't deserve to allow third world nations wreak havoc on THEIR environments so we can have gas under 3$ a gallon and keep our nature preserves intact. seems hippycritical to me.

we want the gas for our cars and homes and factories and tanks, we need to deal with the mess that goes with it.

on the otherhand, it would be better to be in a situation where we wouldn't need to do it.

on the other other hand, the technology available is so much better than it once was and by the time they actually drill [years down the road] it will be even grEEner.

it's a tough call for me. if it weren't for the profits and their endplace and the ethics of whose oil is it in the first place?
