Subject: Workers from Distillers, Speke

Hi, I just wanted to ask two questions: Do any of you people who used to live in Speke, either know of, or did you yourselves ever work at the following places in the 1950s: DISTILLERS/PENICILLIN, EVANS MEDICAL, BEES SEEDS, OR E.R.SQUIBBS? if so, please get in touch, I would love to know if you knew my parents, Stan and Flo Shaw, or even myself, Pamela Shaw. Also, I see some people from All Saints Church have been in contact with each other, but does anybody remember the Speke Baptist church, it was a little wooden hut at the top of (was it Eastern, Western or Central Ave?) cant remember, but I used to get the 81 bus from Hunts Cross, and it went to the top of this road, there were some shops there, it was a terminus, and the church was a few yards away. Would love to hear from anyone who might remember this, also any of the following people. Milly, who had a brother Cliff, who married a twin, sorry can't remember there surname. Also, Billy and Peter Grainger, Judith Millett, Maureen Cook, who used to pal around with Rita Tushingham (the actress) or any of the Daley family, or anyone from Leafield Road, Hunts Cross. Thanks a lot Pam Benson, nee Shaw

I used to go to St. Columbus Church in Hunts Cross and knew Rita Tushinham very well(before she became famous). They had a very good youth club which we all enjoyed.
Did Valerie Mycroft live in Leafield Road or Diane Shaw it was in Diane's that I saw my first television programme - Rin Tin Tin. Not sure whether Diane lived in Barford?

His name was Tom Proffitt. He and his wife have both passed away many years ago.I always looked out for the building when on the Bus into town.

I just about remember the wooden Baptist church on the corner of Oglet lane & Dunlops Rd, it was near Western Ave. My mother had a picture of us in there attending a celebration for the Queens coronation in 53....I was 3. don't remember exactly when they demolished, but it wasn't too many years later. We continued to call it the Baptist field for many years after. In the next field were allotments, with an old POW camp that we would play in. I lived in Western Ave until 69.
