I plead guilty -- but with two mitigating factors -- And the judge has to let me off on a technicality!
First, the technicality: As Shawn rightly points out, we set the rules. As a matter of fact, I set the rules and the other three chaps, being much nicer guys than I, acquiesced. And, Linda, there are four simple rules, not three. There have been four from the beginning and we have not changed a single word in them. The fourth rule says that the moderator decides. I am the moderator -- or one of them, anyway. How did we arrive at three simple rule when there have always been four? If you are going to insist that I follow my own rules, then you can't just hack one of them off because you may not like it, can you?
FIRST MITIGATING FACTOR: Is the length and duration and vile nature of the constant character assassination that Frank Zaberiek has been allowed to carry on about me in the cowardly guise of Dropkick Murphy. Go back and read everything he has written about me over the last two years. All the lies. All the distortions. Anonymously. Without recourse. It's 99.8% baloney.
So whether or not I was over the top in my "personal attacks" has to be taken in the proper context. Sort of depends on whose ox is being gored, doesn't it? What if all those attacks were on Jeff and Linda instead of me? Or on Shawn? Where was your righteous indignation about Dropkick Murphy's slander campaign all these months?
SECOND MITIGATING FACTOR: Is that my characterization of Frank was not gratuitous. I was responding to a question about a overwrought, testosterone-laden figure of speech that Frank employed. It's a really stupid expression, and Josie asked the very legitimate question, "What's this all about?" I won't repeat the explanation, but the point is that Frank has to act out his macho nonsense in the anonymous, cowardly, electronic realm of DAD, because in the real world ... well, you get the point. My description of Frank and how he operates was a direct response to someone basically asking why anybody would employ such a figure of speech.
So I appreciate your point of view, and on the surface, at least, you may be right. But I don't think I'm doing any jail time!
