Dear Bob,
From my own personal standpoint, as just one selectman, I don't want another trucking facility on Route 113, entering from Commercial Drive with the other buses and trucks from Severance, Poland Springs, et al. I voted against the last one, which was approved on a 4-1 vote. IMHO, it's not safe to add any more multi-axle traffic to 113 until and unless a major overhaul to the road is accomplished. I can live without the tax revenue; I can't live with the specter of a semi-car accident that I cause by appoving another terminal like this.
Speaking more broadly, I'm not sure we could put that warehouse there if we wanted to. A couple of years ago, the Town Meeting changed the zoning to prohibit any more truck terminals. Would this be a truck terminal? I don't know, but since I'm not interested in it in the first place, I'll leave that research to someone who is.
Finally, I think there is a world of difference between the I93 or I-495 access to Tewksbury and/or Lowell as compared to Dracut. Bottom line: different sides of the river. So I'm not sure it would be feasible for DeMoulas any old way.
Dennis
PS: On a process note, I call your attention to the "Simple Rules" and note that you provided neither your last name nor an email address. I do find your post mildly accusatory and value laden. That is, you think the town fell down pursuing this (as in sitting on its hands). Your sentence that begins "How do we ever expect ..." and ends with a question mark is not really a question; it's a rhetorical question, that is, it's an opinion. Just like, "It's a no-brainer."
All of that is just fine. You are certainly entitled to your own opinion in the great land of ours, just not anonymously on this forum. I'm going to let it slide this time, but in the future, please provide a last name or an email address, or preferrably both.
The alternative to the above, one that allows you stay anonymous, would be to simply ask a question like, "Did Dracut pursue the warehouse and do you think we should have?" That's a real question, with no implied value, that accuses nobody of anything.
D.
