I was not "disputed" as you would like to believe, you people were downright rude. Just as you had the opportunity to address the school committee, I had the same opportunity. Yet unlike you I was yelled at and and told to "shut up". I don't feel that was necessary or polite. I did not agree with many things that were said but at no time did I or the parents that I was with yell out any derogatory comments. The fact that you wanted to correct me on,as I stated it,was correct. The person that I was referring to has children that attend St Pat's and is not bussed to school. Perhaps they live to close but be that as it may it is possible that I had information from someone that I know that attends that school. I was the only person to speak on this issue because we did not believe that we needed 100 people to step up and state the same thing. I believe that my opening comment was that "I was representing a group of public school parents". But we felt it important that the committe as well as all the parents in that room knew that there were parents that supported the school committee's position.

Your children are bussed in Dracut to Dracut schools. You want to be bussed OUT of Dracut and that's where the problem is. No other town in this area provides that service and the fact that Dracut has done it for so long is quite an accomplishment. Another comment of mine taken out of context was the the "public school children must come first" said that way it sounds as though I believe that private school children are less important and nothing could be further from the truth. I made that comment as a response to someone's suggestion that we cancel after school busses for late help or charge user fees for athletes. So the public school children should be denied access to after school activites and more importantly late help so that the private school children can ride a bus out of town? The athletic fees would only hurt the students of the high school so how is that sharing? And this is where my statement comes from.

I believe the school committee's solution to be fair. If you break down $150 fee per year/$300 per family it comes to $.84/$1.68 per day for a 180 day school year and it will continue the bussing service that you all desire I think that's a small price to pay. Your tax dollars are bussing your children in Dracut just like my tax dollars are bussing my children in Dracut. So the private school children are getting the same bussing as the public school children. This extra fee is for bussing out of Dracut.
You cannot state that because your children attend school out of town you deserve the extra bussing expense because of all the tax dollars saved educating your children. That was your choice. You have the same opportunity that I have to educate your children in town yet you chose to educate them privately and I respect you for that. But tax dollars cover multiple things. I don't call the fire department everyday so should I get a refund at the end of the year because I didn't have a fire? Certainly not and I don't believe that you optioned for private school thinking in the back of your mind that you were saving Dracut so many tax dollars that someday they'll pay you back. For whatever the reasons you decided to go private they are your reasons but just remember choices have consequences and you cannot expect to burden your private choice on the backs of the public school late help, athletics, or god forbid--a teacher's salary.

Hopefully when things pick up again we can once again incorporate the bussing needs into the budget but until that time hopefully the school committee's solution will, at the very least, give your children the transportation they need.
