Hi Warren,
I will be truthful. I can't afford to live here as a single parent. It's that simple. The tax rate is high, but that is all of Mass. and not just Dracut. The water bill is killing me. Mass. auto insurance is three times higher than what I will pay in the midwest.

But, most of all, it is the school system. I have been very open about my feelings with the current school system. The money doesn't go in the right direction and the students are suffering. They are not hiring as many teacher aides as they should. The rooms are overcrowded and the teachers are overburdened. For my kids future, I have to move. I can't see spending money for private education. In my world, the money from the people should go to the schools themselves, paying teachers, aides and SPED services--not some high paid official in a leather chair.

Although the school committee members will differ with me, I researched the facts. Our MCAS results are poor. If someone says they are getting better, I am petrified of finding out what they used to be under the 'good doctor'.

Lawsuits--I am not a fan. Some have good basis and there are lots of things hidden from the people that aren't involved directly. It isn't just Dracut that does that. It is everywhere. Lawyers can't divulge information, for it can taint the case.

Do I believe the stories? Some, yes. Most, no. I have found so many lies surfacing lately from people I truly trusted in this town that, I think 98% of this lawsuit information being passed along is propaganda. The truth is hidden until the case is done so, others make up their own tales along the way, causing sparks to ignite the fire under the taxpayers butts. It is an attention thing. It is also a great way to look good during a political race, even if most of what you are screaming about is lies.

I am going to miss it here. I love this town, and always have. I swam at Red Top Beach, and we came up to buy milk at your farm when I was a kid. I remember when Cross Rd. had sheep, and Marsh Hill was a swamp on one side, with the firefighters doing drills to see how long it took to pump the water. Remember all the cattle, and Arthur's race horses running free in the pasture across from his farm? Those are things that I will take with me, and not what Dracut is today. I still think we have one of the greatest towns in the United States because of the residents, with the best Police Dept. and Fire Dept. anywhere. I just wish other things that made this town so special hadn't been lost to greed, ya know?

Take care (and I will be checking in from Kansas).
Kelly
