I do see your point, Dennis. Many home school because they don't 'like' the public school systems. As for private school, most have their own teams so I don't think that those sending their kids to private school should be playing on our public teams.

However, I have a severely autistic child that may NOT have the accomodations that meet her needs in the public school system, as it is today. We are trying to change that but--if there is an afterschool activity that could help her, and I pay taxes to have her in the school system--but, they are unable to accomodate her needs, why shouldn't she be allowed to participate? There are some of us that don't have much control and I may be one of those that home schools as well. Considering the cost savings on Special Needs busing alone, I don't see why she should be told she can't participate.

It is kind of a catch 22 situation.

I don't know how other towns do it. I do know that, private schools have their own programs so there should be no reason why a parent should opt for public, when they have already opted to send them privately--that is their own decision to do so.

However, home schooling is done sometimes for a reason. I think the school committee is taking on more of a job than they were hired for--and making decisions that really should involve public involvement first. That, of course is my opinion. They are public servants and should act as such.

Again, my opinion.
