I'm not aware of any move to ban the singing of the National Anthem. Did I miss something? I am aware of Toni Smith's ongoing protest (she's the basketball player at Manhattanville), but I don't expect that will result in any move to eliminate the singing before sports events. If anything, it will have the reverse effect, IMHO.

The Ninth Circuit did overrule the pledge of allegiance being recited in public schools because of the use of the words, "under God" but they stayed their outright ban because the US Supreme Court will probably take up the matter. As a matter of fact, the Star Spangled Banner does not mention God until its fourth and last verse when it says, "this be our motto, 'In God is our trust.'" Since this kast verse is hardly ever sung anywhere, I doubt the Ninth's decision will affect the anthem being sung. And the Ninth would only affect nine western states, not here necessarily.

My opinion: the Ninth Circuit is being way too activist in equating the recognition of a deity to the "establishment of a religion", which is clearly prohibited by the Bill of Rights. The fact that these nutcases are appointed for life is the reason you see all the partisan fighting about judicial appointments.
