It's tough being a downer. All that love and light and bliss just doesn't do a thing for you. All the hopeful happy endings finally fall away and you are just left with this horrible gaping unresolvableness. Even calling it a "mystery" seems to be a cop out, taking refuge in a mind concept that provides a momentary feeling of resolution.

I remember something Jyoti shouted at me when I was raging at the Shambhala retreat, "Do you get that it's just so fucking painful to be here." THIS is what the hypermasculine impulse is all about: avoiding the fucking painfulness of being here. We've been doing it all our lives. It's not easy to stop.
