 I would imagine that for people who are unsure of their salvation, purgatory seems a nice comfy option. However I truly believe that the reality of life after death is much more black and white. Even in the Old Testament, God tells the Jewish people to choose life or death, to completely cling to Him and worship Him if they want life. (Check out Deutoronomy 30). When He says choose life or death, I believe God is talking about spiritual life or death. An eternal life with Him or an eternity without His love. Jesus did say that there would be gnashing of teeth, so I do think that hell will also be a place of torment. I don't believe the Bible categorically states that this gnashing of teeth comes from God though or even Satan, and it could be the souls in hell will be gnashing their teeth? Any Christians who can clear up the gnashing of teeth stuff out there?
