Subject: Second Generation - Part #20

PART #20
Alfonso De Nato left the hospital, and drove to Hollingsworth Deverall’s home. He rang the bell; and a butler came to the door. Alfonso said he needed to see Hollingsworth. He was shown to the parlor while the butler went to fetch Mr. Deverall. Alfonso paced the floor of the parlor wondering how Hollingsworth was going to take the news. It didn’t take him long to find out what Hollingsworth thought. Hollingsworth appeared; and invited Alfonso into his study, and closed the door.

Alfonso told him he had been following Peter; and he had gone to the hospital where Boudreau was staying. He also told him that he saw one of Hollingsworth’s cars in the parking lot indicating to him that Lucia was there visiting Boudreau. He watched Hollingsworth as he digested what he had been told. He could see he was becoming angry; and finally in a fit of agitation, he said, “Alfonso, I think you know what to do with our friend, Peter Dunkirk. I cannot afford to have him doing things that will draw attention to us and our operation here in Lake Charles. I don’t care how you do this, but I don’t want his body found around here. I want him to disappear.” Alfonso had already known that Hollingsworth would want Peter out of the way. He smiled; and said, “You can count on me Boss. I will see to it that Peter is seen no more.” He turned to leave; and Hollingsworth said, “No traces Alfonso, no traces.” Alfonso waved at Hollingsworth; and said, “No problem, I will take care of the matter.”

Hollingsworth had been so involved with pressing business matters, he had not kept a close eye on Lenore. When Lenore discovered that Hollingsworth was involved in illegal activity, she began to take an interest in the people who were constantly coming to the house. Of course she made a point of not being seen for that would upset Hollingsworth, and bring problems down upon her own head.

Lenore managed to study the people who came to visit Hollingsworth. She sat at her window in the upstairs bedroom, and could see them perfectly. She also listened to the conversations between Hollingsworth and his guests, since there happened to be a register in the floor of her sitting room that was located right above Hollingsworth’s study. He had no idea the information she had heard, and even recorded. There had been a major change in Lenore; she was no longer drinking. She decided it was time to clear the drunken cobwebs from her brain, and get control of her life. She always kept a bourbon bottle close at hand, and a half filled glass. The bourbon bottle contained apple juice. She would continue to encourage Hollingsworth to think she was a lush; but she was going to take control of her life. She had every intention of leaving this man even if it killed her. She knew she had to be smart; and when she left, she would leave with proof of his illegal activities.

Lenore thought of ways to get Lucia out of the house, but finally decided she would have to wait until she had all her ducks in a row. At that point she would ask Lucia to take her to see her doctor since Lenore did not drive a car. On the way, Lenore would tell her what she knew. By that time, Lenore would have everything set up to leave Hollingsworth. She had to be so careful, so she would not attract attention. One little slip up; and she would be eliminated like this man called Peter Dunkirk.

Lenore had to do something about Boudreau. She knew there was something going on that concerned that young man. She wasn’t positive why Hollingsworth wanted to have him killed, but she figured it was all part of his power grip mentality which extended to everyone and everything. He refused to accept the fact that his daughter was a grown woman; and she would want to get married. It was obvious that Lucia was in love with Boudreau. Perhaps that is what infuriated Hollingsworth so much. He couldn’t bear to think she would leave him. Lenore bit her lip as she thought of his fixation with Lucia. It was warped and sick. She was not some prized animal to own and control. She was his flesh and blood, his child. She was well past bouncing on her father’s knee. She had grown up, and didn’t need her father as she did at one time.

Lenore wondered how she would be able to tell Lucia about her father. He had managed to keep his dark side hidden so well from her. Lucia doted on her father; and thought there was no one like him. Again, Lenore knew she had to have proof for Lucia probably would not believe her without it. She wondered what she was going to do about Boudreau. She knew it was only a matter of time before Hollingsworth got what he wanted. He always got what he wanted. Well, this time she hoped it would be different.

To be continued...
