Subject: Australian BSL update

Queensland Australia has restricted the dogs the Commonwealth banned from import in 1992--Dogo, Fila, Tosa and APBT or Pit bull terrier. The state law, from June 1 2002,made it illegal to own w/o special permit, the dog to be kept in a compound, signage, leashing, muzzling, and desexing, with no minors in charge, or no passing, selling of dogs.
Due to local law powers most councils( 127of them) are legislating to PROHIBIT Pitbulls,so they don't have the bother of a ledger and checks and permits for a small number, yet the law is affecting huge nos of crossbreed dogs-- and with the dreadful chasing of anything that looks like a bull breed tyeo, about 8000+ innocent pets nave died since June 1 2002.(PADDL says)

A restricted breed law on the same Import ban breeds is coming into force in the southern state of Victoria where I live. Dogs must be in secure yards and maybe pens, and are to be clearly signed as restricted dog, leashed, and microchipped etc.Govt has warned they will move to desex if there is any "trouble".
That's quite ludicrous as the APBT type was only ever responsible for about 1.8% of Qld attacks that were recorded, that state lets councils do nothing or what they choose and its dog laws are awful.
In Victoria a study over two years showed the Pitbull at no 13 of 20 on the list of attack breeds, and attacks were rushes and threats as well--with 21 and top was GSD with 127, but nobody wants any breed banned except the RSPCA and the Lost Dogs Home and government.Vets,KCC,breeders against!

All submissions of science and sense were ignored for this kneejerk reaction of "kill a pit and let all others bite the kids all they want."Hysteria reigns!
