First of all, over which time period are you contending that unemployment has gone up and how do you corrolate that to cutting after-shool programs.

Second, why would we have a nationalized child care service in the first place? Just to make sure people have jobs? Sorry but that won't help since most of the people who stayed and worked at these afterschool programs were teachers anyway (no new jobs created, no jobs lost). Besides, when will parents start to take more responsibility for the care of their children and not leave it in the hands of the government. I've seen the way the government handles things, and when I have children they will be as far from government sponsored care as possible.

Continued and increased nationalization of industry is a trend towards socialism - that is a fact. Childcare now, health care tommorow, maybe we'll start taking back the utilities and tighten the government reigns on airlines since those have been soooooooo successful.
