Let us all read "Life of Pi" if we want to understand choices.

My attempted point is that human slavery -- humans selling one another -- owning each other as chattel -- is heinous. Genocide is heinous. Malum in se -- nothing, absolutely nothing, can be said to justity slavery or genocide. NOTHING!!

Taxation is not heinous -- there are arguably legitimate purposes for taxation. It is not inherently evil or heinous.

To equate taxation with slavery trivializes slavery and inaccurately distorts whatever might be wrong about taxation with hyperbole. In other words, neither poetic license nor literay metaphor supports equating taxation and slavery.

Slavery =~= genocide, yes; but taxation =/= slavery!!

Taxation =~= bad, yes; but taxation arguably =/= inherently evil.

If we, as a society, believe that slavery and genocide are merely as burdensome or bad as taxation, then we risk, as society, looking the other way when we see slavery and genocide, saying instead, "Hmmm, that's not so bad."

We must recognize evil when it is evil -- and be willing to call evil "evil." That should be the easy part. The hard part is knowing the difference between genocide and justifiable war -- I honestly did NOT see that coming when I began this thread -- I REALLY was writing in the abstract and not trying to be current events political --

I guess nothing is ever just an abstract thought --
