In reply to: Employers are adding jobs at the fastest pace in four years 's message, "http://money.cnn.com/2004/06/04/news/economy/jobless_may/index.htm" on 12:12:35 06/04/04 Fri

How many of you hope to have a more secure job situation and retirement "plan" than your parents have? How many of you think that is a realistic concept?

A single twist of fate can be devastating -- try getting hit by someone with the minimum car insurance -- while you are in college and about to age out of your parents' insurance coverage. What kind of job do you think you will be able to get? What insurance company wants to insure you -- with the prospect of lifetime medical bills resulting from continuing crash-related problems? How do you finish paying for college when all time out of class is spent in rehab?

What do these jobs that are being added so quickly pay? Would you be happy doing one of them for 5 or 10 years?

A job is one thing. Work that gives a sense of purpose and dignity is quite another thing. "we are not a jobs; our jobs are just jobs -- they do not define us," is really just psycho-babble pratter designed to get us to willing do grunt work.
