 He couldn’t say that he felt an untruth. She was speaking from a sincerity that she knew. Unfortunately, Zeth didn’t know it yet. She spoke and her words never landed, never really assured him. But he did recognize a spark of truth. They had faced worse. They had made good out of bad. But this time? Could they? And as far as this being his fault- why wasn’t it? Had he not scorned Briallan? Had he not knowingly hurt Alicia in all the ways he had? Had he not kept running away again and again dispite the pain it inflicted? There was no truth when she said that this wasn’t his fault. It was. He had been bred pure and innocent and tainted it that night in the cemetery. He’d given his earthly life in exchange for never ending life. He’d shamed his father. He’d hurt his step mother. He’d forshaken numerous children? He wasn’t a good person. Ashena could like his potential but she couldn’t really like him. Luckily, he was as greedy as the devil himself. He would never purposely loose any valuable asset and Ashena was a valuable asset. Her friendship provided comfort and her beauty provided work. A small smile played his lips. She did provide some comfort. And he was glad for it.
