Cost, accuracy, range. BBs are cheap, BB guns are cheap, but they have a very short range and unless you spend a lot on a good one, their projectile paths can vary greatly (thus lack of accuracy).

Paintballs are a bit expensive, as are generally the needed air fills. A case of 2000 good paintballs is at least twice as expensive as 2000 .22 rounds. Additionally you must pay for either CO2 or Nitrogen. Also, paintball trajectories are innacurate as well. I've played a heck of a lot of paintball and know this from experience. Ever tried hitting a person at 100m with a paintball gun?

Well, then we better close down the space program because the rockets were primarily developed to kill people also.
