Subject: George A. Seevers ??

Daniel D. Seevers was the son of William and Elizabeth (Devolld) Seevers. Daniel was married twice, first on January 14th, 1841 to Barbara Ann Jones. After Barbara's death on June 7th, 1857 he married Catherine Matheny on July 12th, 1857.

There is a male named George A. Seevers that shows up in two census records living in the household of Daniel D. Seevers. His name is George A. Seevers. I am trying to figure out a positive relation between Daniel and George.

George was born in about 1839. This was two years before Daniel and Barbara Ann Jones marriage in 1841. The marriage date for Daniel and Barbara was recorded in Daniel's own bible.

The 1850 Washington County, Ohio census reads:

Daniel Seevers - 30 years old - born in Ohio - Occupation: Cooper
Barbary - 29 years old - born in Pennsylvania
George - 11 years old - born in Ohio
Elizabeth - 6 years old - born in Ohio
Wm J - 5 years old - born in Ohio
Uriah G - 1 year old - born in Ohio

In this census it would look like George would be Daniel D. Seevers son.

The 1860 Newport Township, Washington County, Ohio census reads:

Daniel Seevers - 40 years old - born in Ohio - occupation: Farmer
Catherine - 23 years old - born in Ohio - Occupation: Keep House
William J. - 14 years old - born in Ohio
Uriah - 12 years old - born in Ohio
Harrison - 9 years old - born in Ohio
Daniel J. - 4 years old - born in Ohio
Joseph M. - 1 year old - born in Ohio
George A. - 21 years old - born in Ohio

In this census, he is listed at the end of the household. They did this a lot for people who are not immediate members of the family, like a brother or cousin or such. I don't believe that he is Daniel D. Seevers brother though, as I checked the 1840 census for his father William and there was not an unaccounted male that would fit to be George.

I do not think that Daniel was married before Barbara Ann Jones either. In a General Affidavit that Daniel's second wife Catherine dictated concerning getting a military pention for Daniel, she said "When Barbara Seevers died there was a family of five small children the youngest being nine (9) months old, that is the reason that we married so soon after the death of his first wife"

Elizabeth Mary Seevers, William James Seevers, Gilbert Uriah Seevers, Harrison C. Seevers, and Daniel Jeremiah Seevers. They had two other children, John W. Seevers and Elias A. Seevers, but they had passed away by the time of Barbara's death in 1857.

Daniel recorded George A. Seevers' death in his own bible. He gave the death date as June 12th, 1860.

So, who was George?
