Subject: Abraham Seevers' New Jersey Location and Move to Pennsylvania

According to census records for two of Abraham's children, John and Charity, he was a resident of the state of New Jersey when they were born. This places him in the state, but where?

It is most likely that Abraham was the son of Conrad Seevers and Charity Busenberg who resided in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.

It seems that Charity had another son named John Seevers. In more than one instance when you find Abraham's name on something in New Jersey, you will find John's also. That is up until about 1789. This fits in with the thought that Abraham left New Jersey in about 1788 and moved west to Washington County, Pennsylvania.

If you can connect Abraham to Hunterdon County, New Jersey, then that would re-enforce the thought that Charity was his mother as this was her home.

Somerset County borders Hunterdon County, New Jersey.

In 1788, Abraham paid taxes on 275 acres of land, 2 horses, and 3 cattle in Somerset County, New Jersey. Also, in 1788 John Seevers paid taxes on 200 acres of land, 2 horses, and 5 cattle. Then, in 1789 John Seevers pays tax on 475 acres of land there and there is no Abraham Seevers to be found. Obviously, Abraham is gone at this point and John acquired his land and livestock. 1788 must have been the year that Abraham moved to Pennsylvania.

This coincides with Abraham's son John being born in New Jersey in about 1787 and his daughter Margaret being born in Pennsylvania in about 1788.
