Pathfinders DID NOT jump the Aldis Lamp or the Delta Lamp or the M-227. These items of signalling equiment were tested in Sicily and deemed unsuitable for intended operations.
It may be a point of interest to know that experiments were also conducted with railroad flares which were similarly deemed unsuitable.
The standard field lighting device was the so-called Holophane Light. A product of RAF boffins, it was kit-bashed in UK for use by US and British Pathfinder teams. It was not a stock item and will not be found in anyones QM catelogue.
