Thanks for your expression of support Stijn.

Here are some facts about what is going on in Portland and the United States coupled with my opinions regarding them.

Whether one likes it or not we are now at war with the current regime in Iraq.

To stop now would permanently and irrevocably damage the credibility of the foreign policy of the United States.

We need to finish the job.

I dislike war and, despite my conviction that the overthrow of the Butcher of Bagdad is a necesary thing, do not see the war in Iraq with glee.

Do not miss-interpret this. I am not a pacifist. We are at war and I support my country and our troops 110% !

As for the protestors; There are some, and I do not agree with their ideas, who seek to exercise their right of redress by demonstrating against the war in Iraq.

Others are simply using the war as an opportunity to further other unrelated agendas and also to disrupt and hinder. These people are dangerous.

On Thursday 20 March, several thousand fringe groups managed to shut down the finacial district of Portland, Oregon (my home town) by blocking several streets leading in and out of it. A group of militant bicyclists blocked the northbound lanes of I-5 others layed down on I-405, and both lanes of I-80 were blocked by still more protestors. All of these are major interstate freeways (kind of like the German autobahn to those of you in Europe) which route vehicle traffic through Portland.

Innocent bystanders were threatend, cajoled, and otherwise harrased by these people in their attempt to "occupy" the city. The windows of at least 18 businesses in town were broken, assaults on two police officers were carried out (one was hit with a club and another had acid thrown on him). peoples cars were vandalized, american flags stolen from a car dealership and dragged on the ground and burned. and a legal pro troop demonstration infiltrated and the participants harassed simply because they chose to express support for the soldiers serving in Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, and elsewhere.

Yesterday a meeting of 75 protestors from several different groups was convened at Portland State University to discuss strategies for future operations conducted against the government. This meeting was closed to the media but one reproter from the Oregonian, a local newspaper managed to attend and learned some points of great interest.

The following were selected by these scum for "covert action against strategic targets": federal buildings, military recruiting offices, financial brokers, and businesses which "tacitly support" the war effort.

One of their strategies is for small groups to scatter all over town; to "Stay away from the mass marches and do real damage."

Anyone who does not agree with them are potential targets for vandalism, or harrasment. This is domestic terrorism!

These are not spontaneous locally inspired tactics but are being practiced on a large scale in many major cities in the United States. The protestors are organized on a national level. One person involved in the protest movement is Craig Rosebaugh a former spokesman for an environmental terrorist group who is active in planning these things throughout the west coast of the United States. Another local spokesman is Elizabeth Samuels who I beleive is a student at Portland State University.

I should note that the troublemakers represent a minority, even for the Portland Area which seems to be more liberal than a lot of other areas. None-the-less they are destructive.
"Fifth collumnists" if ever I saw any.

During the Vietnam era the government of North Vietnam considered the streets of America as a "major war front". I am sure that the Sadam Husein regime feels the same about these protests.

The united States is at its highest level of alert for terrorist acts and this garbage is tying up rescources which could be better employed in protecting us from major terrorism.

Their next major effort will be on the morning of Tuesday 25 March during which they plan on trying to take over the city between 06:00 and 08:00.

Now on another note; I made a trip to a bookstore here in southwwest Potland to purchase some books on GO, an oriental game I happen to be addicted to, and was confronted by a couple of 6these folks to sign a petition to impeach the president. My response was to lock my eyes in a forward postion march past them and mutter a bad word "F**# off".

I won't take any crap from these people.

These people are complaining about repression at the hands of law enforcement. The City of Portland is handling them with "kid gloves" i.e. they are being treated gently. They should see how this sort of thing would be handled in other parts of the world. In South korea, for example, they might be allowed to crawl into alleys and die from wounds inflicted on them by the South Korean Army and police. They don't know what police brutality and opression are.

Just my opinion. Thanks for letting me vent.

Sam
