The statement by that "rigger vet" is interesting. I would love to hear more about it if possible.

Just the same there is no question about the use of suits without extra pockets so I stand by my statement that this should be the way to go.

I once saw a period photograph of two confederate soldiers in shirts which buttoned all the way down (or up?) the front. This was unusual in that most shirts of that period only open partially in the front and were of a pull over type. Does this mean that because it was seen in a photograph it would be permisable to allow an entire group of confederate living historians to wear them at a public display? I don't think so.

Authenticity standards are intended to enforce and maintain an accurate group impression. even if something did occur or was used in an isolated case I would not aprove it. To do so would be interpreted as a sign that everyone could use a non standard "blivet" and you would have a situation anologous to those confederate units in which everyone carries a belt knife. Just didn't happen.

Maybe this sort of thing could be allowed with a restriction based on the "specialty" or rank of the member using the item.

Just some ideas.
