Her head is lowered, as she wishes to see only her hooves and the ground beneath them, and her eyes are hard. Snorting softly, she glances up and sees that her son, Zamnor, has already left. Shrugging, she turns to go... and then pauses. There was little to do at home, and she wishes only for rest. Spotting a willow, she moves towards it and lays beneath its sweeping branches. Her eyes follow those long, thin arms, her ears lazily perked forward.

Frozen Dreams

Funny, he had thought that by now he recognized most of the horses come to the valley by sight, if not by name. This creature seemed new to him, noting the fact that the valley was empty of most of it's inhabitants he went to greet this new mare. as he drew within distance enough to watch the stirring leaves adorning slim and graceful branches he surveyed the phina with moderate appraisal. mother already his thoughts dictated almost immediately. Unsure of wether she had notice, or even cared for his presence he whickered a low greting, routinely followed by the toss of his ever-proud head and a sleek, excellently perfoormed bow. as he drew himself up he smiled cockily dow at the mare. the effect would have been brilliant, save the somewhat dim sparkle in his eye that gave way his weariness, the one clue that led closer inspection of his slightly drooping shoulders, the few seconds lapse in the response of his hindquarters to the rest of his body. He was tired, and it was starting to show through. making a mental note to take a nap he inclined his head once again, auds pricked forward in attentiveness, as he began to speak.
My Lady.. Pray forgive my ignorance; but i don't believe i've seen you before.. not that that is at all unexpected, considering...
He stopped himself from babbling them both to death and paused to draw breath before speaking again.
I am Frozen Dreams, might i inquire after your own name?

So weary was she, that her acute perceptions failed to notice the stallion for a minute or two. When she does see him, she makes no move to stand and receive him properly, but instead motions for him to join her. Under the spiteful fingers of exhaustion, she could well see that he, too, suffered the same.

"My name's Nyssia. Perhaps the reason you have not seen me before is because I do not live here, I live in Death Valley." Untouched by his cocky attitude, yet feeling a sparkle of admiration in the depths of her mind, she nickers a soft sigh. "I suppose I should leave... I didn't mean to intrude upon anyone when I came."

Frozen Dreams

noting her weariness and storing the detail in the folds of his mind, he smiles and dips his head slightly
no no, feel free to stay, you are tired. rest yourself a while.
he steps back a bit, as if to give her space but continues to watch her, crania slightly tilted, bemused yet, a always, underlyingly vain smile crossing his features.

However, the thoughts that run sharply through her head are not reflected upon her visage, and soon her gaze is lowered again. Turning her head, she looks through a curtain of leaves to where a small babbling brook trips merrily along.

The eyes of the mare fill with some remote expression of the beginning of inner peace as she watches the water. Without looking towards him again, she simply utters a quiet, "Thank you. It's very lovely here." She is silent for a few seconds more. "I take it you have not been residing here, in this territory, for long?"

Frozen Dreams
Mistaking her distracted gaze for a hint that she would prefer to be left alone he had already backed up a few steps when her question came, and not wanting to disturb peace by raising his voice at all he stepped forward, again into the shade of the willow. The breeze making the shadows dance across his arrogant features.
You are right, I came to the valley around..
He trailed off a few seconds. how long had it been? he'd been so busy time had flown by.. he thought back, the effort caused his brain to scream with weariness and so, deciding he would never decide on the right date, or even week he answered vaguely
early in the month I believe. Not long anyways. And yourself? Where do you reside?
he had not meant to ask, to require any effort in the answerings of his idle questions but the one inquiry had slipped his tired guard and ventured forth, so he stood, neck arched proudly, waiting for her answer, idly pawing at the ground with a polished flint.

She cannot tear her eyes from the calming sight - and better yet was how it remains unchanging - but she responds quickly, a smile edging unobtrusively through her voice as she does.

"I reside in Death Valley... a territory that would have been categorized as inactive long ago, except for the few persistant habitants. Like Evil Valley, we are suddenly, though slowly, being filled with members. I can only hope this continues."

Ideas to continue the present subject of converse, or to commence a new one, are lost to her. Thus she falls again into a content silence.

He nodded, it's good this sudden onslaught. though rather tiring. many new faces to meet.

he notices the smile and settles himself into a more comfortable position. relaxing his stance slightly. they'd stood in silence long enough he asked another question.

So what brings you to our valley in the first place, might i hazard to ask.

"Occasionally it's harder to deal with the older horses than with the new horses. With the new horses you have a clean slate to work off of... with the older horses so often it seems that your fate with them is set." The mare snorts lightly. "As for my presence here... it's simply that I believed my son to be here and came to find him and recall him home. I saw, though, that he had already left." A grimace crosses her delicate features, and she closes her eyes briefly. "I'm not a very good mother in that respect. I should probably go looking for him. Yet, he's a bright one, and at that age I was already being pushed into exploring by myself, alone for sometimes days on end. I... I'm still not used to the differences between Cascade Mountains and my old home."

he nods at her words. perhaps trying to seem sympathetic. but, after all he knew nothing of sympathy. or parenthood. so there was very little he could say. however he managed to scrape up something appropriate. finding politeness to be effective in the conversation so far.

font color=silver> That's tru I suppose, I've found myself rather welcomed by even the older horses here, though.

he looked up, black bug turning toward the woods at one end of the valley and running over the length of the terra.

well, if your son isn't here, i'm sure he'll turn up somewhere eventually, children usually do that, don't they?

his own, very brief, childhood left him almost completely ignorant of things a young colt might do. on her last comment he meditated, thinking to himself but not commenting on. his adjustment hadn't been too rough, bt then again he had yet to actually assimilate himself. he'd neglected to conform with the rest of the herd and was, for the most part aloof and with drawn, meeting others with arrogance and disdain.

"Yes... they usually do." A soft, laughing nicker leaves her. "Hopefully he will turn up in the right place, and not the wrong one. Though I may be a terrible mother, I do love him, and I would hate to see him hurt." Though she continues to smile, her eyes glimmering, a faint resemblance of fierce protectiveness passes over her countenance. Her head shakes slightly, as if to ward away such a show of emotion.

"I suppose you haven't been here long enough to land yourself with a family?" The mare asks after a moment, her tone slightly teasing as she does so.

Frozen Dreams

His senses, all to used to mockery immediately picked up on the teasing hint, but he managed to escape a tempered escapade by shifting his weight and pondering up a response. He mused over the question a few moment, pictures of several mares dancing through the grey matter betweeen his ears before the untrained smile tampered with his impassive countenance.

No, as of yet I haven't a family of my own. but I don't expect it to happen any time soon.

His personality was ill suited for either fatherhood, or even as mate. he knew that much. he was a solitary creature. whether he liked it or not, he doubted his arrogant nature would ever allow him to step down from his pedestal and his fortified walls to allow any individual to get that close.

She nods, drawing her gaze away. "Of course, there's nothing wrong with not having a family." Her nare's flare in a shrug as she continues. "Some just aren't meant for it, and are meant for other things. Some just need a little push, and others won't accept it. Personally, I've come to love having the son without the mate."

Frozen Dreams

He nods at her words, it was logical. the son without the mate, the mate without the son. all thing's he'd seen before. his own experience ranking up there but not indulged into at the moment. the thought would remain packed in it's box among the other stored memories.
Idly he dug his polished flint into the turf, point cracking the frozen shards of grass that, curiously, ha d remained green throughout the fall and were now being preserved in crystal for the winter months. he licked at the snow that was alighting on his nose. pink snake darting between ivory squares in brief flashes, like lightning. he smiled at the falling snow, ignoring that it fell into his forelock and tumbled into his eyes, the cold displayed there was more than these white flakes could add to. and he liked the feeling. snow was the one weakness he would allow himself, no matter how frivolous the notion was. he spoke to her, but kept his eyes on the dancing stars.

Yes, I suppose it can be a deciding issue that, tells a lot about a personality.

he lowered his pate then and met hers. eyes narrowed ever so slghtly, trying to gauge just how much she'd gotten from the conversation so far.

Again, her head turns, this time to meet his gaze squarely. With seemingly openness she allows him to study her as she stares back with relaxed eyes. Of course she had already made her own conclusion about his character - not bad at all, actually - and she had been processing ideas and thoughts throughout the entire chat; but it wouldn't do any good to let him know that. Really, she is much more comfortable with him believing her to be a simple-minded and talkative mother and mare.

"I suppose. But there's more than just choosing whether to have a family or not - there's also the responsibility that comes with either of the decisions, and the consequences. How a horse, or any creature, deals with that could be even more informing than the actual choice."
