Subject: Nia, having found the Snow Ball predictably terrible, entered wearily.

She had failed to reassume her usual form. Now, her tailored sapphire gown abused and molested from the protracted journey home, Nia's legs were killing her. With vehement hands she tore her ivory slippers from her feet and flung them headlong across the myriad apron of land that formed the rather jagged periphery of topographical beravement for the forest. Damn the ball, damn formal wear, and dammit, damn the Christmas spirit as well. All this manipulative festivity was just a compensation for the inadequacies of equine liason.

[OOC- *Thoughtful* I guess Thunderwave could be in two places at once...]

So very similar it was to another he could well remember. A soft sigh puncuated that thought, and he peered up and into the branches of the tree on which his thoughts had been circulating for the last half hour or so... once or twice he had even been tempted to speak to it. After all, it was a living creature, even if it had no tongue with which to speak, and no proven mind. If a horse stood silent, and unresponsive for a week or more - wasn't it still a living, breathing, and thinking creature?

He grimaced; some thoughts had too many pathways to sour memories. His fingers flexed, and he brought the hand to his face, watching it with little real interest. The blood bay brute had transformed himself human after only an hour of disturbing contemplation. Somehow he felt stronger, more confident as a man than as a stallion. A strange thing indeed for the warhorse, the brutal steed who had arrived years ago in Cascade Mountains with only thoughts of survival on his limited mind.

Limited... perhaps that had been better. But unfortunately, a couple of mares had changed that line of thinking for both him and his brother. One of the mares being his own mate, Nia. Pain creased his lips, his eyes closing as if to ward off the incoming regrets and hopeless queries. Oh how he missed her! He had left only after it seemed she would never return. And now he had returned hoping to find her again, to speak to her again....

But hadn't he? His breathing paused and almost stopped completely as he looked back over the timeline of an hour or more. So completely wrapped up in that filly's troubles, he had forgotten his own. Now he looked up, his gold-flecked eyes darting anxiously around as he searched for her slender form.

[OOC- I would continue, but I REALLY have to go to bed now. Later, 'night.]

She watched him from her position a good distance off, although it was difficult to keep her mind focused. The sight of Thunderwave sent Nia's gilded head reeling in about fifty thousand different directions, different memories, all at once.

Nia really, really wanted to leap into his arms and skip merrily off into the sunset hand-in-hand. But though her heart flew into her throat, something restrained her.

She saved face by saving her composure from eradication. Nia walked towards him with as much resolve as she could summon. Every ounce of control she possessed fought to protect her nerve.

"Hi." Standing much closer to him now, she kept her cerulean eyes trained on the ground. The fragile "damsel in distress" buried deep inside of Nia threatened to rear its delicate head if she looked him full in the face.

[ Ugh, that was terrible. ._. sorry...I'm sick and hungry, LOL. ]

How he wished to pull her within his arms... to be again simply mates and lovers, as shallow as the relationship had seemed upon the surface when they had been together last. It was hard - oh, so hard! - to be casual as he watched her approach, and so hard to simply stand while she came... came to him. So, he didn't.

Though his hand hung by his sides, and he moved not nearly an inch, his foot moved to shift his weight around; facing her with helpless love buried alive beneath the severe restrainment of his eyes, the love attempting escape so that it might again present itself to the world and that one, significant being.

"Hello, Nia." Hands clamped under the tension that wrapped his person like a blanket of fog. Does she even want to see me? He thought desperately, his teeth clenching with the seemingly hopelessness about the whole affair. What can I do?

The erosion of their relationship had not eradicated the bond the two shared. Inherantly, Nia sensed his discomfort.

Okay, now what? She squeezed her fingers together in pockets of air and wondered if he knew exactly what was going on in her head. No, then he would know that she wondered if he knew what was going on in her head.

Paradoxically, this state of semi-confusion eased her mind. Lately things had seemed so puzzling that befuddlement was like home plate to Nia.

Now she could go back to being normal. Spontaneously, she threw her slim arms around his neck and buried her face in his shoulder. "Sorry," she whispered, her voice puckish and blithe.

The only reason he had not sensed her thoughts, was because of his own dense thoughts that crowded his head like so many insects looking fruitlessly for a way out.

Then her arms were around him, her head was so close to his that he could lean down and kiss it... which he did. A single tear tumbling down his cheek as he pressed his lips to her hair, his arms slipping tightly - but gently - around her waist.

A string seemed to snap in the man as he held his mate; a string that would have sent a child, or a lesser man, weeping. Another tear journeyed down.

"No, Nia, I'm sorry." Though afraid to crush her, he was also afraid that she might slip away from him - his grasp tightened slightly... another renegade tear came and went. His voice faded with hesitance. "I love you."

Nia held him tightly, afraid of what might happen if she let go. Her heart popped back into her throat and right out of her mouth through the emotion her subsequent words imparted. "No, don't worry about it. I love you, too," she added fiercely, possessively. She closed her eyes and allowed herself to, finally, relax.

Finally the onslaught of tears, as weak as it had been, halted in its tracks, allowing him to simply smile down at her with pure relief and adoration and - of course - love. Words could hardly express what he wanted to say, and so he said nothing at all.

Meanwhile, two invisible hands redrew from their position around his arm as their purpose - to drag him off to either a monestary or a circus - became unnecessary. Waving cheerfully, they left.
