Skylar, being Skylar, had little interest in anyone else's problems, but noted that his vast unease seemed out of place. Usually, she sensed, he took pride in being strong and courageous...he was arrogant. But the injury had sent his egocentric deportment awry.

"What happened?" She queried bluntly. Why skirt the crux of the whole matter? She enjoyed making others sweat, anyway.

His auds levelled back against his skull, and he flinched as if struck. turning he levelled his eyes with hers, narrowed slightly. he studied her a moment before muttering a calculated and icy reply to her query.

I had a fight.

he didn't state the obvious. that he'd lost. that he hadn't been good enough. he shrugged his gaze to one side, staring intently at a bird perched nearby. the unmistakeable signal that he'd had enough of th topic of conversation.
