She eyed him skeptically, annoyed. He was turning out to be just what she'd originally thought: another typical male egotist, too protective of his worthless pride to be self-deprecating, too narcissistic to have a little fun with his own mistakes.

Suddenly, Skylar decided she didn't have tme for this. She wasn't planning on waiting for him to nurse his self-esteem back to health. "You don't need to tell me that you lost your fight; it's written all over you face. But for Godsake, stop acting like it's the end of the bloody world. So your confidence got stepped on. Losing builds character."

Skylar left him alone to brood. Let him ferment in his own cursed company, she thought to herself as she departed.

Frozen Dreams

He watched her depart. shrugging it off with indiffernce. only to have the thought tug at the corners of his mind again moments later. he tried to ignore it, looking again out of the terra. thisdistraction failed, as he knew every inch of his home better than he knew his own heart. He sighed heavily, deep lamps losing their lustre, now that there was no one around to see. The truth was, he admitted reluctantly, he was tired of being alone, friendless. if he had wanted to be alone, why had he ever come to Evil Valley?
His crania slid from side to side, large sweeping gestures, encompassing the whole of the Valley below his hill. snapped cannon hanging like a ghalf deflated balloon from the end of his leg, several inches above the ground. His dusted hide darkened with the approaching darkness of winter nights. He knew the answer. he just wasn't ready to take on the unfamiliar world of sociality. his carefully condtructed walls were perfection in his eyes and to take them down he felt might have been sacriligious.
But here he was. alone on a hilltop, accompanied by the whistlings of wind. doomed to look on forever from the top, never daring to lower himself to the standards of society.

Dreams never fade, but evolve in the frigidity of solitude
