Subject: Tribute to Anya Christina Emmanuella Jenkins (sigma repost)

A Tribute to the Fallen Star.

First of all a big shout to Spike and Amanda.

But can we please focus? From the first time we first laid eyes on a certain Miss. Caulfield as the deformed demon Anyanka in the epic episode ‘The Wish’ there was something sparkly about her. Something was there…

The writers obviously agreed as she was originally cast to appear in two episodes yet continued with the show for another 4 seasons.
Up there with both Spike & Willow, James & Alyson, Emma/Anya has had the strongest journey in my opinion.

There were times when people would dismiss Emma as a sitcom actress that’s only capable of 2Dimensional witty lines and no emotion, then came that speech in the body…real, raw emotion behind it. This was the first of several challenging performances for Caulfield, as she faced the trauma of being jilted at the altar in ‘Hells Bells’ and as her character Anya realised she had no place in the world during the “Anya Biography” ‘Selfless’

No other character has ever been able to make absolutely any situation more bearable and humorous than Anya Christina Emmanuella Jenkins, the deliverance of sharp, yet serious wit is that of no other and Emma has truly bought the character into her own light.

Anyas journey from man loathing vengeance demon to self-sacrificing loyal and honest confidant / partner in crime of former wannabe Andrew Wells has been a long one and a tough one.

She first returned to Sunnydale early in Season 4 to deal with feelings for Xander, whom she’s attended the senior prom with, feelings she hadn’t felt for a millennia.

While sometimes embarrassingly straight to the point, it was all with good intention, as said by herself, she didn’t see the need for lies which is what put a lot of the scoobies, especially Willow, off her at first. Over time she began to be a useful member of the gang with several contacts and a several life times of demon knowledge and wisdom built up to share.

Her end has no sadly been met, as she faced up to the apocalypse to fight side by side with her friends – to the end. She was no longer ready to leave as she had too much to leave. Her keenness to rid of Turok Han and Bringers that were homing on Andrew was her eventual downfall as she was caught off guard and cut from shoulder to stomach.

Will we see the Anya again? Who knows.
Will we see Emma again? Be sure of it.

Emma, Anyanka, Aud, ANYA – We salute you!

She was a great character, and Emma did a fabulous job with her. In fact, it's really hard to imagine any other actress who could embody Anya the way that Emma did.

She had a long long life (over 1,000 years, right?) and died, in the end, helping those silly humans she could never quite figure out.

[> Ahhh, our poor Anya. In the end she did find her 'self' -- {mikeyG}/Our Aud was selfless no more, 14:39:36 05/21/03 Wed (142.177.222.116)

Great post, sLaPpy.

Her speech in The Body was the first time I saw Anya as more than the comic relief and it caught me so off guard and yet at the same time completely within her character. It was the only part of that episode to get me choked up and still does so to this day.

Sure she died a brutal, and ultimately pointless, death. But before she did she figured out who she really was, a person who could risk her own future for the fight to protect the futures of others.

Bless you Anya, we love you.

"Not to their faces. What am I, insensitive?"
