It sounds like they are his anal glands. Please do bring him to the vet, as they can get really infected. my old gal once had a huge anal gland abscess that popped up over night and it was very painful for her. if they rupture your dog will be in exruciating pain and they can get infecteD. It could be the beginning stages of an anal gland problem, better to be safe than sorry as I am tellin , you these are VERY painful for the dog if they get infected. I will NEVER forget the shirlls my dog let out when the vet drained it.She should have been put under and thee ER vet I took her to did not and I will never forgive them for my putting my precious girl through that pain. don't let fester and grow , it could be nothing but why worry and wonder. is your dog scooting across the ground or licking around the anal glands? do you smell any fish coming from his glands? if so anal gland problem..

Pls let us no what your vet says it is and good luck.
