I dealt with this with Butler when he was a puppy. You are referring to demodectic mange, right? We did the dips with Butler. His fur started out looking moth eaten. And yes, a compromised immune system can be the cause - which was the case with Butler. We cleared it up, and he'll be 5 years old in July and hasn't had another problem with it. 30 lbs for a 4.5 year old sounds a little small to me, but some boxers are smaller than others. What does your vet say about his weight?
