Yeah, that is strange. I know ff.net went through a phase of just pulling every story that was reported without checking it, but I thought that more recently they had actually started looking at reported fics to prevent that sort of thing. Ideally they're also supposed to suspend your account and warn you before closing the whole thing, but I know in the past they've pulled entire accounts without warning - maybe they've returned to that way of working, which would be a shame.
As NSP said, since she's a paying customer, you'd expect them to take a bit more care over her account. Have the admin got back to her yet? They may be able to clear things up on that front. (The line between R and NC-17 is always a bit blurry when it comes to writing, so if - as you said - her fics weren't all that graphic, I can't really see them being considered blatant enough NC-17 to warrant pulling her account.)
