Why is he lame?

If he is lame, isn't that sufficient reason to write fanfic about him in order to make him, er, non-lame?

Does his lameness come from the original fiction (i.e., Star Trek) or from this fanfic? If it comes from this fanfic, how? In other words, cite and comment, preferably with a fully detailed review of the entire fanfic, which should be posted at the very beginning (i.e., in the topic's main thread).
