Subject: A few initial thoughts
In reply to: The Site Guru 's message, "New Message Board" on Sun, Nov 16 2003, 12:39:28

I haven't played with it much, but here's my initial thoughts and impressions.

The board looks good. It's well organized and I think it'll be easier to follow threads. I also like that the long threads won't bump others off the "front page", since it's a much less flat structure than the current board. I also like all the options, although I wish that "Hide my email address" was the default. I managed to find and click it, but some of us do worry about being "outed". I like that it works and looks fine under Linux - I often have font problems, but none on the new board so far. I find it annoying that I know how to code html yet I have to use the stupid clicky boxes to actually html-ize my text. It's a lot faster to type the code than to take the time to stop typing, mouse up to the first box, type the text, stop typing and mouse up to the closing box. I suppose there are worse things, but as someone with a bit of a clue I find it annoying that everything is geared toward those who don't with no shortcuts for people like me. I suppose it's a small price to pay though. All in all it looks like a major improvement to me. It's much more flexible and customizable. I hope it's more stable.

One question though. Someone mentioned the ability to ignore posts by certain users, essentially setting up a killfile. I did some poking around and could't find anything related to that. There's block lists but they appear to be related to blocking instant message thingys. Can anyone walk me through setting up a killfile so I can test it?

AC
