No worries. No knowledge required (except for how to get here and how to post). :)

Just like what happened with past closures, the main GAFF web site (for the moment, http://go.to/godawful/) will automatically forward you to the most current GAFF web board until that site is no longer operational. If such an event occurs, and there is no current GAFF web board, it will be up to "guessing," or searching on the Internet. (Best method would be to use a search engine, like Google or AltaVista, to search for "godawful.")

If this web board is still accessible by the time a new web board is made available for GAFF use, I'm sure someone (or several someones, most likely) will post here the link to the new board. :)

Since already established web boards (e.g., InvisionFree, EZBoard, VoyForum) are run by privately-owned or privately-operated organizations, and each is a separate entity, it would be impossible to import such user information into a new board for two reasons:

1. Virtually all web boards keep their user information databases locked up, away from board moderators and accessible only by board programmers.

2. Each entity uses its own form of user database, so different sets of information (i.e., "code") would be incompatible unless a programmer "massaged" the data (i.e., assuming we had access to our old database of users). Since such web board organizations are free, it would be very difficult to find a board programmer willing to devote the time necessary for such an endeavor.

As such, users will have to re-register when moving to a different site.

>(just a one more little thing, is anybody willing to

If you mean "avatars" or profile pictures that you see on a variety of web boards, those are optional pictures that, on some sites, users are allowed to upload (i.e., from their own computer) to represent themselves. When you register as a member of such a site, your member profile (if the site provides one) will detail the steps necessary to alter your profile and, if offered, upload a picture to be your avatar. Some sites with avatar-enabled profiles also allow users to link to a picture that is posted on the Internet, so that users are not required to download the desired picture to their computer.

Many sites offer a variety of standard-size avatars, and you can find them by searching the Internet. Additionally, many pictures of all shapes and sizes (e.g., a scanned-in picture, a digital photograph, etc.) can be used as avatars if the avatar-enabled site allows their use. That is, most avatar-enabled sites place a restriction on the file size, picture size, and resolution, so not all pictures can be used as avatars. Fortunately, many of these sites also offer automatic conversion of pictures to the required format.

I hope that helps. If you need further clarification, or help with anything else, please do ask. :)
