I won one once - with the lousiest piece of crap I've ever written. It was a parody and the fools took it for a real sweet romantic piece of fantastic fic. Bwa ha ha ha.

It's seldom the writing per se that is the issue, more often the right pairing, the right fanon (forget canon) and belonging to the right clique. I've seen splendid work (IMHO) go unnoticed totally while a piece of crap like my parody was hailed (well until they found out who really wrote it *sardonic leer*

But then again, I never agree with the Oscars either ;)

I'd love to see a link to the winning story and to yours - just to see what the whole hoo-haa is about. If you are willing to share that is.
