Gerrard World Cup hopes gloomy - Houllier

Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier says Steven Gerrard is unlikely to play in the World Cup.

The midfielder suffered a groin injury in the 5-0 victory over Ipswich on Saturday.

Gerrard has flown to Belgium for an assessment of the injury to see if he requires surgery.

Houllier said: "I don't think he will make the World Cup.

"Since February we have tried to manage his problem in a conservative way. But he may now have to go through an operation and I would be very surprised if he made the tournament.

"As a manager I would have liked him to have gone to the World Cup fully fit and I think he would have played.

"But I do not think it is fair for him to go and maybe play just one game."

The only other option we have is either McMannaman or Bowyer, both of these two could easily fill Gerrards boots, but why wont that old fool pick either of them ?

I dunno
