It's my pleasure to report that plans for the OCA's, planned, celebrations in the coming months are steadily advancing under the sterling leadership of Terry, ably supported by his wife, Wes and the committee. We had a very constructive meeting on Thursday and I, personally, am looking forward very much to the events. The only downer to the meeting was that Derek was missing, for obvious reasons, and I am sure I speak for everyone when I say "get well soon Derek, mate".
In support of what Jim was saying about the ISP, AOL. I would like to throw my twopenny worth in and say, if at all possible, get rid! It is one of the most intrusive programmes ever to be put onto a PC and, in terms of being unfriendly to competition and rival applications, is second only to Microsoft itself. I personally don't know of anyone with a good word for it!
Finally, to end on a light note, over the last few days I have been on a site called 'Computer Stupidities', reading all about the, at times, inane but at the same time, very funny dialogues that take place between customers and Tech support personnel. It's a bit dated, in the main but there's a lot that I can recognise as being up to date. In fact, theres quite a bit that I may have been guilty of saying or doing myself!! Here's a typical example;
Quote:-
I used to do tech support for a company that made computer accessories and video game accessories. We had a pay-for-access web site for one of our products. The site was full of special codes and cheats. One day, a customer called, asking how to access the site.
Tech Support: "Well, just go to [URL]."
Customer: "How do I do that?"
Tech Support: "Type it in in your web browser."
Customer: "Huh?"
Tech Support: "Ok...sir...do you have Internet access?"
Customer: "Huh? No. No Internet. I don't even have a computer."
Tech Support: "Ok, sir, you need a computer and an Internet account to access web sites."
Customer: "Oh. Well, it didn't say that when I mailed in the membership card. I want my money back."
Speak to you all again soon................................
