Dave, The boys never did guards at Bramcote, maybe if they had done this duty they might have realised that being on the permanent staff side, was not such a cushy number after all! Apart from dealing with prisoners and those under close arrest and of course the dischargee's also dealing with Restriction of Privledges was normal routine for us! And contrary to popular belief, if we didn't have any of these we would have to complete the work details ourselves as the Guardroom would still have to be kept immaculate for the change over of shifts the following morning plus the Occurrance book had to be kept up to date before going in front of the RSM after change-over! And yes Dave, the air raid siren was still used for fire drills etc....even when I was there!........Certain things may of changed from your day, but normal routine never did to any degree over the years. When the Telephonist was not on, all incoming calls went through the Guardroom which always caused problems when you were trying to deal with so many other different things at once!.....Bullshit might baffle brains, but it did nothing to mine thankfully!...........
