Tony, nothing wrong with you memory old son! We did a Special Armaments site guard at the location that you specified. If I remember correctly we were split up into two groups. One performing the actual guard at the site in question and the other kept in reserve at the American lines as a quick reaction force as a backup element. Half way through the tour we switched over to break up the monotony of stagging on in those goon towers between the inner and outer perimeter fences. The Yanks on the inside and we as always on the outside. The American guardroom even had a bloody coke machine in it! I believe that I did another couple of tours of these sites further south while I was with 27 Regt at Sennelarger some years later. Had to stay at Barker Barracks which was a pain in the arse! I prefered the first tour that I did with 49 Bty as we were on the American Lines and were allowed to go to their PX and use their facilities which was a hell of a lot better than ours! To change the subject somewhat, I always prefered the Canadian Cookhouses to the American ones as they had a better variety on offer and less junk food that seemed to be what the Americans liked best!....I remember walking into a Canadian Cookhouse in Canada and being asked what I wanted to eat! So being a meat kind of guy I said "Steak" To which he replied "How do you like it" I replied "Just rip its horns off and wipe its arse!"....Bloody marvallous it was too! Never tasted better! The wastage was far less than ours was, simply because they wouldn't cook it unless you asked for it! So the pigs dipped out on a feast!...I know a bit about these things as I seemed to be permanently on cookhouse fatiques so to speak in them days!...........
