The first thing you need is a temp gauge that is accurate the one on the XII is not really that good. You can use a pocket temp gauge to check and see where you are at. The XII will heat up to the point of the fan coming on at a long stop light depending on actual air temp. It does take a couple of miles of steady easy riding to come back down. BUT that does not mean that it is too hot!! It will normally run about 175 to 190 degrees and the fan will kick on around 200+ This is not hot for a XII. The gauge on the dash has been very unreliable because of where it plugs into the sensor with a bullet connector on the t-stat hsg comes loose and there is really not a good ground to it. Most of us have run a xtra ground wire from t-stat to battery or else where. Reason I am saying all this is as you can see that it is not a easy job to change it out. You may want to flush your cooling system and clean radiator, ect first to see if that helps. But if it has to be done it is not to hard just a PIA!!
