Sun-kissed locks had barely touched the pillows cool comfort when he broke the silence. She'd assumed he'd stayed behind, rescue the damsel in distress and all, but it seemed she'd been incorrect. Pools that had blissfully slid shut peeled open, refusing to look in front of her and instead drifting upwards and to the ceiling.
Sprawled on the bed she felt as much has heard his words spoken. Her still beating heart twisting and shuttering at the recognition of the voice...though the words caused another callous to form. "I've heard that before." An almost physical tear seemed to form in the words, but none dared to grace her cheek.
Yes she'd heard those words before and always they had been followed up by the same ol' thing...and yet? She found a part of her wishing them to be true this time. Needing them to be true. Long had the nights been without him and even more the days by which they had slept in blissful protection from the sun. An object at a time or two she'd not have minded introducing him too, but always the blasted emotion called love had prevented her...just as it did now.
Eyes trailed from the ceiling back around the room, there was no doubt he'd slept with someone here or gotten very close, but that wasn't the point anymore. He'd always pushed the buttons to the last possible point then stopped, waiting to see her storm off and never return. The problem was - she couldn't. Broken was her will to flee, she was immortal and only if she could grasp another of the creatures of the night could she truly fake happiness. A mere mortal would wither and fade, leaving her just as alone as before, if not more so. No...it was Zeth or nothing with her and this alone caused the blonde to shift and finally lower her eyes on the door frame and the man in it.
Lord he was hot, gorgeous even, the problem was that he knew it. He knew his power of persuasion and used it to his benefit. She wasn't the naive little blonde of before, he'd have to be honest for once if he wished to grasped a reaction from her. Gods she hoped he would, because deep down, she knew that...somewhere the Zeth she knew. That she married even was there...yes this one was him too, but it wasn't the persona she loved nor was it the one she wished so deeply to hold. It was just another of his snake skins waiting to be peeled.
"What do you want Zeth?" Hand lifting to show the beautiful ring on finger. "This? Or did you wish something more." Her words fell like ice on air around them, yet the words did not strike with the wish to freeze or burn...they were simply spoken, a disguise for her unspoken fear that he'd truly fight her for the ring and in turn her signature on a paper she'd just as soon die before signing. Sapphire and Emerald watching and waiting she fiddled with the ring, eyes never leaving his face though she'd have torn her gaze away if possible. She wondered what he'd do now.
