Lavinia was her mother's daughter with her long onyx mane and pale emerald eyes. For a child of only 12, the youth had a rare understanding of the relationship between her mother and her father and a dislike for them both. Spoiled brats. The both of them. She grew up in a broken home because of their pride. It was their fault. All their fault. Dressed in a drab charcoal dress with lace and ribbons, the petite creature stood barefoot at the end of the bed with her slender digits fumbling with the silver chain hanging around her throat. From her father, the child inherited his smile and laugh, the way his eyes crinkled in the corners when he laughed, and at times his sense of humor. Perhaps that was why her mother always treated her like a precious treasure that could disappear at any moment. At any second she Lavinia could be whisked away by some ungodly phantom. Snatching up a man's jacket from a chair, the fabric was brought to her face. Was this her father's? Was this what he smelled like? What did he look like? Her mother never had any pictures of him and when Lavinia asked, her mother always told her that he was handsome. But she wasn't here to cling to such tokens. His jacket forgotten at her feet, her attention turned to his closet. Everyone knows that when you have something to hide, you buried it in the back of your closet or in your sock drawer. Her gut said closet. Knob clutched and turned, the child froze, reconsidering. It had taken all her courage to defy her mother's wishes and to come here to find the truth. But now. Now she wasn't so sure if she wanted to know the truth. What if he didn't love her? What if he sent her away? What if he hated her? It was too late to turn back now. It was just too late.
