Subject: An urgent plea for help
In reply to: Dalo Hellion 's message, "S.O.S." on 14:08:18 11/05/01 Mon

Erlic had been watched the battle in the dining room when a zombie backed into him, while fighting one of the other members of the party. Erlic quickly grabbed the creature’s arm, twisted it behind the creature’s back, and twisted it hard with all his might, until he heard the tell tale sound of bone breaking. He then pulled the beast backward, and lined his knee into its spine. It fell immediately into an unconscious stupor.

The vibration from Erlic’s pouch alerted him that Dalo was trying to signal him. He pulled out the mirror in full view of everyone there, and was surprised when he saw no image within the mirror. At first Erlic was stumped until the revelations of all that had transpired suddenly brought him to awareness. Everything that had transpired, the poisoning of the food, the attack on the party, and he placing the tray of tainted food into Dalo’s lap, suddenly brought understanding to Erlic. It now made sense to see the zombie backing quickly away from Dalo’s bed when Erlic had first walked into the beast master’s bedroom. The zombie wasn’t there to deliver the food; rather, he was there to kill the beast master.

Erlic quickly pocketed the mirror, grabbed a small white linen cloth from the table, and quickly made his way forward, only to stop at the shaking figure of Eremis. He stooped down for a brief moment as he finally got the youth’s attention. “Tie this around my arm Eremis,” Erlic stated quietly. “And do so quickly.” The youth trembled as he started to wrap the linen cloth against the injury in Erlic’s arm. The assassin caught the young healer’s eyes, and responded. “Valhorek told me that you could be very valuable if you wanted to be, and, that you were very good at your trade. Check on Marz for he’s been badly injured.”

Eremis simply looked around. “But there’s a war going on!” the younger healer declared.

Erlic simply looked straight into the healer’s eyes. “Listen Eremis,” he stated with a rigid look upon his face. “You’re a healer, and it’s your job to see to it that everyone doesn’t die. The battle is about over, and there’s enough people here to insure your safety. Now go, before I throw you into the fray myself.”

With that, Erlic didn’t bother to see if Eremis complied with his command, rather, the assassin rushed through the door, and ran up the stairs until he came to Dalo’s room. He burst into the bedroom to see the zombie, and Dalo lying in a heap upon the floor, with Dalo covered in blood. Erlic quickly checked for a pulse, and noted that Dalo’s was very weak. He cursed himself for his own foolishness, and stupidity, for not realizing the true nature, and intent of the creatures that had attacked him, and his party, especially after the warning his own mentor had given him. Erlic had to move quickly before Dalo’s life passed away. He lifted the prone body, and gently laid it on the bed, caring nothing of the stains the beast master’s blood would cause. He went to a closet, and found another sheet, which he quickly started tearing into strips.

At the moment he really needed a healer, and Eremis was the only one, along with some healing abilities by Laurel, that could properly take care of Dalo, but considering the amount of injured people, there wouldn’t be time. For the moment he wrapped the torn sheets around the wounds to help stop some of the bleeding.

Erlic took a deep breath as he closed his eyes, focusing intently on the chi he possessed, bringing forth that aspect of the chi power that was used especially for healing purposes. He placed his hands on Dalo’s chest, and channeled all of his chi energies into that one area. Erlic’s breathing continued to slow, and become shallow as he slowly started to disperse his own inner chi powers into Dalo’s body. Gradually Erlic directed his inner life force toward the two severe injuries, the one below his collarbone, and the one in the beast master’s side.

In practice, the healing abilities dedicated to the ninja, and practicing shaolins, were basically used to heal one’s self. It was extremely taxing when they had to focus their own inner energies into another’s body. On simple wounds it required very little of the life force, but on more complex, and life threatening injuries, it was feasible that the shaolin himself could pass out from the exhaustion needed to transfer his own life force into someone else’s body.

After a very long two minutes, Erlic opened his eyes, and was thankful for the work his own chi had performed. The bleeding in both of the major areas had subsided, and even now the wound would remain open, but would not bleed, giving Eremis enough time to finish up what he was doing downstairs, and come up to take care of Dalo.

Erlic fought off the impulse of closing his eyes, and relinquishing himself to some sleep. He grabbed a salve from his pack, and applied it to both major wounds. He then replaced the now bloody bandages with clean ones. Erlic then moved to the arm, which luckily had now stopped bleeding. As long as Dalo didn’t move the arm, he would be fine. The assassin applied the salve to his arm injury, and wrapped it in clean sheets, making sure that just enough pressure was applied to keep the wound closed.

Erlic stepped back, and leaned against the wall, using what little chi he had left to focus on Dalo’s aura. The colors were starting to regain their luster, albeit slowly. The assassin breathed a sigh of relief knowing that the beast master would be fine after a long needed rest.

Erlic slumped to the ground, too tired to even move. He admonished himself for not seeing sooner the trickery that had been involved against the group. And for his own foolhardiness he had almost lost the life of not only Dalo, but the lives of the others as well. Had he seen the signs sooner, none of this would have happened. Justin was unconscious, Tristan seemed sick, Marz was severely injured, and Corum was unconscious. The rest of the group had suffered minor injuries. As Erlic thought about everything that had happened, he realized that he, and the rest of the group had indeed been very fortunate to escape with their lives intact.

Erlic allowed his eyes to close realizing that he wouldn’t be any good to anyone at the moment. Before falling into total unconsciousness, he spent the last of his chi powers, and sent Laurel a mind message.

Send…..Eremis……Dalo’s room……

As the assassin fell into unconsciousness from expending all of his inner chi powers, he felt somewhat relieved that the others would be able to manage the situation without him. Fortunately, Erlic only needed rest to regain not only his chi powers, but also to regain strength from the blood loss in his arm, that was now covered with blood.
