When Erlic left the room, Dalo released Legs so that the tarantula could get some much-needed exercise. Making sure to leave the lid open on the box that served as the creature's home, he set it on the table beside the bed then proceeded to eat his dinner. The small bowl of stew tasted great, but the steak was tough and the java bitter. He grinned at Legs, who scurried around the room while dropping a few pieces of meat into his box for the spider to consume later.

While he ate, Dalo thought about Erlic's warning of possible danger lurking around the Palace this evening. Since a very powerful necromancer that controlled an army of undead owned the place, he couldn't find anything to worry about. As far as he was concerned, Kazabet would have no problem keeping her city, palace, and houseguests safe.

Once he finished off most of his food, he set the tray aside and eased down unto his back. Sitting around all day in bed certainly made him tired! He yawned a couple of times then closed his eyes and fell asleep immediately, thanks to the sleeping powder that had been mixed into his meal.

Shortly after the battle in the dining hall began, one of the fake zombies ran out of the room and headed up the stairs. Hopefully, the injured human he brought food to earlier was fast asleep by now. Killing him would be a simple matter then.

Upon reaching Dalo's door, he opened it slowly, smiling when he peered inside to find his target snoring lightly. He withdrew a dagger and slipped into the room, leaving the door open a crack as he crept to the bed. As he made ready to slice the man's throat open, he yelped in alarm instead when he spotted a hideous tarantula crawling up his leg. Although he wouldn't die from the thing's poison it would leave him feeling ill for a few days while it worked its way through his system. Quickly, he stomped his foot, making the large spider fall to the floor then turned back to his victim.

Luckily, the noise woke the beastmaster. He opened his eyes in time to see a knife sweeping at him. Reacting swiftly, he grabbed his assailant's wrist just as the blade bit into his throat slightly. Fake zombie and beastmaster began to struggle in earnest. Because of lethargy, Dalo lost his hold for a moment, and howled when the knife plunged into his chest right below the collarbone.

The zombie withdrew the blade immediately and stabbed the human again, slicing through the muscle in his left arm this time. The man fought bravely through his weariness but the Jangali Royani knew it was only a matter of time before he managed to deliver a death strike. He was taken off guard by the damned tarantula that had crawled up to his shoulder and now sunk its fangs into his neck.

Taking advantage of the zombie's momentary pause, Dalo balled his hand into a fist and shoved it into the creature's ugly face. The zombie flew back, pulling Dalo along with him since he had one hand clutched at the beastmaster's shirt. Both parties tumbled to the floor renewing their struggle. Tears welled up in the beastmaster's eyes when he felt the knife tear through his side. When Legs scurried into the zombie's face Dalo managed to grab the dagger from its hand then plunged it into his windpipe, ending its life instantly.

Pain lanced through his entire body as he rolled away from his attacker, covered in blood that was mostly his own. He thought about trying to crawl out of the room and calling for help but knew he wouldn't get very far because of his broken leg and numerous injuries. With a shaky hand, he reached inside his pocket. He bit his lip to keep from passing out while his fingers curled around the communication mirror housed there. Although he couldn't find the strength to pull the item out, he was able to rub the magic rune on the frame that would cause Erlic's mirror to vibrate, alerting him to the fact that Dalo was trying to call him.
