Erlic turned to watch the others. Isobel seemed to be holding her own, when the smaller figurines started their own attack, latching themselves onto her, and disabling her from the larger puppet. He was about to leap into action when Ravin showed up, and managed to cut the strings from the large puppet, as well as the ones holding the smaller ones.

Both Isobel, and Jade had sustained some injuries, and he was about to help when he noticed movement. He had forgotten about the third puppet, and quickly turned to figure out a quick way to disable it. He kept looking at the strings, and pulled out his Kawanaga.

The Kawanaga was both a tool, and a weapon. It had a length of rope with a grappling hook at one end, and a weight at the other. It could be used for climbing or as a weapon, by swinging the hook or the weight at the opponent. In addition, the rope could be used to entangle an opponent.

He checked his surroundings so that he wouldn’t get anyone else hurt, and swung the weapon over his head, and let it fly, while holding the rope portion in his hand. The grappling wrapped itself around the strings holding the large puppet up, and squeezed them together, totally disarming the creature. That was all the time the guild master needed to slice the strings attached to the body, causing it to fall to the floor.

He picked up his Kawanaga, and quickly looked around. There were no other signs of activity, and he was prepared to move to help the two women, when he noticed something odd on the back of the large creature he had just immobilized. He stooped down carefully, and examined the area. Still wearing his gloves, he felt the area to be square, roughly about one foot by one foot. He used his dagger to pry it off, and was surprised to find a sack inside.

Carefully, he kept his distance as he used his dagger, hooking it onto the sack, and slowly pulling it out. He sliced the cords of the sack with his dagger, and was surprised that it housed several gems. Well at least they had found something for their efforts.

He took the sack, and pocketed it for the time being, as he made his way toward Jade, Isobel, and Ravin.

Valhorek had come into the battle toward the end, but he managed to disperse the smaller creatures. Even though their strings had been severed, they were still close enough to continue to do damage to both Isobel, and Jade.

He managed to slice at them, without harming the two women, and violently threw the figurines into a corner, where they simply remained. He suggested that they return to the room from where they had come from, so that he could tend to Jade, and Isobel’s injuries.

Together they left the room, Ravin helping Isobel, and Erlic helping Jade, until they arrived at the other room. Valhorek quickly took a look at Isobel. He gave her a sharp glare before she could even utter a word. “Remember,” Valhorek told her. “Let me do my job, and I’ll be happy.” He smiled at her as he checked out her cheek. “It’s really strange,” he stated while applying a salve to her skin. Whenever they strike with their weapons, they automatically infect the area once it’s exposed.”

He did the same to the damage on her legs, applying a salve, and making sure that no infections set in. He then turned to Jade, and proceeded to fix up her sliced arm. Again, it had become infected almost immediately, and the healer had to wonder just what they were up against. Hopefully they wouldn’t meet up with any more creatures for a while. Once the salve was applied, he wrapped it in bandages, and told her she was as good as new.

“Didn’t I tell you to watch yourself,” Erlic stated while watching Val attend to Jade. “Such carelessness will not get you very far.” He teased her with a smile to show he was only kidding with her, at which point he turned around to see what else there was of interest.

He spotted a passageway, and gathered the others to follow. Carefully, and slowly he made his way, checking the areas for any unsuspecting traps that the group might encounter. What had made these creatures, and most importantly of all, why did they bleed? It was a rather intriguing, if not a very dark question, one of which he had no solution.

He had been on numerous campaigns where their findings usually uncovered strange, and most unusual creatures, but nothing like this. They were made of wood, but yet the strings that animated them went to the ceiling, and stopped. So how were they able to move? Magic had to be the only answer, at least the only one that made any sense. And if that were the case, that meant there was someone else down here controlling them, unless they had been made ages ago, and cast with some type of spell that would maintain their activity for years to come.

As he group continued down the long opening, Erlic spotted another opening ahead. He slowed down, and motioned toward the others. He slowly crept along side the opening, and looked in. He was somewhat startled to find a room filled with paintings, tapestries, and sculptures.

Seeing nothing out of the ordinary, he walked in. The room was about thirty foot square, and housed a myriad of various artistic endeavors. A statue on a pedestal held his gaze when he realized the eyes were made out of rubies. That idea immediately reminded him of the sack he had found. He pulled it out, and split the gems with the remaining people. Oddly enough, the sack contained ten gems, giving each of them two to do with as they pleased.

He decided he would leave the statue for last, and started to scour the room, touching various paintings, and tapestries, without any ill effect. It was obviously a simple storage room.
